BONE GRAFTS IN NAPERVILLE, IL
Unlocking the Secrets of Bone Grafting: Building Blocks for a Stronger Smile
Behind every successful dental restoration lies the crucial foundation of jawbone health. Bone grafting, often linked with procedures like implants and bridges, plays a pivotal role in ensuring the stability and longevity of these treatments.
Understanding the Importance of Bone Grafting
Jawbone Volume: The success of restoration procedures hinges on the height, depth, and width of the jawbone. Bone grafting becomes essential when the jawbone has receded or suffered damage, providing a stable foundation for implants and other restorations.
Factors Affecting Bone Volume:
- Periodontal Disease: Damages the jaw bone supporting the teeth, leading to instability.
- Tooth Extraction: Results in bone loss around the extraction site, termed as “bone defect.”
- Injuries and Infections: Trauma or infections can cause the jawbone to recede, affecting oral health.
Why Choose Bone Grafts?
Bone grafting offers a highly successful solution to combat missing or damaged teeth, preserving oral health and aesthetics. It enhances jawbone height or width, fills in defects, and stabilizes the foundation for restorative surgeries.
The Bone Grafting Journey:
1. Oral Examination:
- Thorough assessment of teeth and gums.
- Panoramic x-rays and, if necessary, CAT scans to evaluate bone condition.
- Anesthesia and exploration to determine bone requirements.
2. Bone Grafting Procedure:
- Types of Grafts: Autogenous, Allograft, Xenograft.
- Harvesting bone from the patient’s body or using cadaver or synthetic bone.
- Fusion of new bone with existing bone for enhanced stability.
3. Surgery and Recovery:
- Local anesthesia administered.
- Incision made to prepare site for new bone placement.
- Synthetic membrane may be used to promote new bone growth.
- Post-operative care instructions provided along with medications for infection, discomfort, and swelling management.

SINUS AUGMENTATION IN FOX VALLEY, NAPERVILLE, IL
A dental implant is essentially an artificial tooth root which is attached to the jaw bone. Eventually, a replacement tooth or bridge will be firmly fixed to this root, restoring complete function to the tooth. The key to a successful and long-lasting implant is the quality and quantity of jawbone to which the implant will be attached. If bone has been lost due to injury or periodontal disease, a sinus augmentation can raise the sinus floor to allow for new bone formation.
In the most common sinus augmentation technique, a tiny incision is made near the upper premolar or molar region to expose the jawbone.
A small opening is cut into the bone and the membrane lining the sinus on the other side of the opening is gently pushed upward. The underlying space is filled with bone graft material and the incision is closed. The bone which is used for this procedure may be from your own body or from a cadaver. Sometimes the dentist might use synthetic materials which can also stimulate bone formation. The implants are placed after healing has occurred; this will depend on the individual case. Sinus augmentation has been shown to increase the success of dental implant procedures.
